CADD Centre Launches Courses on Unigraphics NX and GD&T

Coming from the stable of CADD Centre are two new courses: Unigraphics NX, a specialised CAD/CAM integrated software, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), a symbolic language used to precisely define the geometry of mechanical parts to enhance quality in designing and production processes.

CADD Centre, which imparts training in over 100 courses in a wide variety of engineering including civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, modeling and architecture, is expected to train thousands of students in these new courses.


The courses on Unigraphics NX are offered by faculties trained by Siemens, the developers of Unigraphics NX, in over 75 CADD centres covering all major cities in India.The objective of the courses is to teach students to design and model various mechanical products, develop design and modeling techniques, optimize design process, design for manufacturing, improve data collaboration and create robust designs.

Unigraphics NX is a leading CAD/CAM/CAE system based on the best technologies for creating products of any complexity. In India, it is the third most popular modeling package after Pro/E and CATIA, having the fastest growing industrial user base and student community. The Indian industry alone needs 500 to 1000 professionals with Unigraphics NX knowledge every month. After completing the course students can be employed as a design engineer in all types of manufacturing units, engineering services outsourcing firms, auto ancillary units, and aerospace companies.

The Foundation Course on Unigraphics NX-CAD would help students create: profiles for 3D models, design solid, surface and sheet metal geometry, build assemblies, prepare production drawings, apply geometric tolerances to drawings, exchange data with other CAD applications, and create realistic rendering. While, the Advanced Course in Unigraphics NX – CAM would help them master common manufacturing functions, planar milling, engrave text, face milling, cavity milling, z-level milling, thread milling, area milling, flow cutting, radial cutting, surface area cutting centerline drilling, groove and thread operations.

The courses on GD&T would aim at introducing tools that allow mechanical designers to effectively communicate complex geometrical descriptions which are otherwise not possible using a defined language. GD&T is successfully used in the automotive, aerospace, electronic and the commercial design and manufacturing industries.

GD&T enhances the employability of students, as more and more Indian companies that maintain quality, cut cost and reduce wastage in the designing and production process, want to recruit engineers who have good knowledge on GD&T. The implementation of GD&T techniques is regarded crucial by Indian industries, gearing up to improve their production and quality standards to compete in the global market. GD&T is also a part of 6-sigma standards. In India, approximately, about 25,000 design engineers with GD&T background are hired by the industry every month.

CADD Centre has developed the course material inhouse. It uses flash media to train students on GD&T, and uses MCADD software to demonstrate the use of GD&T. The GD&T courses will be offered to all mechanical students who have enrolled in 3D modeling courses at no extra cost. The working professionals can exclusively enrol in GD&T courses. CADD Centre is expected to train at least 25,000 mechanical students in GD&T in India by the end of 2011-12.
